History
In December 2005 the member agencies received a small grant from the City of Vancouver to explore the development of an early childhood hub on the west side of Vancouver. The members of the Hub are group daycares, preschools, and family daycare, family places and neighbourhood houses.
The west side encompasses an enormous geographical area with approximately 60,000 families with children from birth to twelve years of age. Most early childhood services are isolated stand-alones run by non-profit board and this has presented tremendous challenge for both the service providers and the families that use those services.
Our primary goals are to
- provide an integrated network of services for families that include not only child care, but also family drop-ins, parent education and family support,a "one-stop-shopping" where families can register once at the hub office for childcare from infant toddler through school age.
- to support, stabilize and enhance the financial and administrative efficiencies of the individual organizations
- to improve service outcomes for families.
Acccomplishments to date
- extensive research and training around hub development
- monthly networking meetings of hub members
- staff development
- development of a policy and procedure template manual for early childhood programs
- targeted and therefore increased family awareness and participation in additional ECD programs
